Free Forum Hosting at XforumsX Dot Com
I thought i’d write about one of my other websites today and this site in particualr has been taking up alot of my time. What i offer at this website is free forum hosting based on phpBB2 forum software. Which happens to be one of the most popular bulletin board systems in the world. Currently i have a multi forum script that allows multiple instances of phpBB from only one actual phpBB installation. It’s quite a clever script, all a user has to do is fill out a simple form:
After filling out the form you just click on ‘Create My Forum’
Simple.
The service has been going for a few months now and at the time of writing this i currently host 86 activated forums and 28 forums that are still awaiting email activation. On average there’s about 5-7 forums being created everyday and the numbers are growing.
AMFR Mf Script
The script that i use is from a great bunch of guys at Amfrservices.net it’s totally free to download where as other scripts such as sebflipper and echophp require subscription or a one off fee. There’s alot of features in the AMFR script and the best thing about phpBB is it’s so easy to modify. Even if you’re a php newbie, there’s tons of tutorials on the net about how to modify the code and add mods or even make your own custom mods. Mods that come with the script are; adding ads at the top and bottom of each forum, remove ads from a single forum, ad an admin to a forum, prune out inactive forums and a paypal function which allows users to pay for ad removal. On top of those features you also have the mods that can be installed for the users too. The script only installs a basic phpbb forum itself, so you have to add those mods manually. This is very easy to do though. Mods users have on my service are; Add a Forum banner, Ranksonline mod, Shoutbox, quick reply mod, last visitors mod and i’m currently working on a few more mods to install such as the ‘Add meta tags mod’.
All in all it’s a great experience but requires alot of time if your serious about it that is. There’s also tons of competition with millions of results in Google for this type of service. So far after some SEO i’ve been able to get onto the first page for some important keyphrases for my service. One of the keyphrases being ‘Create free forum’ which puts me in 10th place in the results out of 210,000,000. However with all the competition it changes from 10th to 11th from time to time. I’m ranking high for quite a few other phrases too but i’m not gonna post them.. Maybe you can find them yourself?
